ECI Transfers 8 DMs, 12 SPs Across 5 States Ahead of General Elections

In a move to ensure free and fair elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued transfer orders for 8 District Magistrates (DMs), 12 Superintendents of Police (SPs), and officers of DIG/IG rank across five states – Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
The decision was taken during a regular review meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Shri Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
Transfer Orders Issued
The officials transferred are as follows:
1. Assam: DM of Udalguri
2. Bihar:
a. DM and SP of Bhojpur district
b. DM and SP of Nawada district
3. Jharkhand:
a. SP Deoghar
b. Directed to fill vacant posts of SP(Rural) Ranchi, DIG Palamu, IG Dumka, and send a panel of officials
4. Odisha:
a. DM of Cuttack & Jagatsinghpur
b. SP of Angul, Behrampur, Khurda, Rourkela
c. DCP Cuttack & IG Central
5. Andhra Pradesh:
a. DM of Krishna, Ananthpuramu, Tirupati districts
b. SP of Prakasham, Palnadu, Chittoor, Anathpuramu, Nellore districts
c. IGP Guntur Range
Ensuring Impartiality and Fairness
Under the directive, all transferred officials have been instructed to hand over charge to their immediate junior officers. These officers will not be assigned any election duty until the completion of the General Elections 2024. The respective state governments have been directed to send a panel of names of IAS and IPS officers to the Commission.
The transfers are part of the ECI's regular review process to ensure impartiality and fairness during the electoral process. Such measures are taken to maintain the integrity of the elections and prevent any potential influence or bias.
The ECI's proactive approach in shuffling key officials underscores its commitment to upholding the democratic principles of free, fair, and transparent elections across the country.
