The Election Commission of India's (ECI) Suvidha Portal, a technological solution designed to ensure a level playing field during elections, has received an impressive 73,379 permission requests from political parties and candidates since the announcement of the General Elections 2024 and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Efficient Processing of Requests

Out of the total applications received, a staggering 44,626 requests (60%) have already been approved, while 11,200 requests (15%) have been rejected. Additionally, 10,819 applications were deemed invalid or duplicates and were consequently cancelled. The remaining applications are currently under process, according to data available until April 7, 2024.

State-wise Breakdown

The state of Tamil Nadu has witnessed the highest number of requests at 23,239, followed by West Bengal with 11,976 and Madhya Pradesh with 10,636. On the other hand, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, and Manipur have received the lowest number of requests, with 17, 18, and 20 applications, respectively.

Ensuring Transparency and Fairness

The Suvidha Portal, accessible through its website (https://suvidha.eci.gov.in) and a companion mobile app, streamlines the process of obtaining permissions and facilities for various campaign activities, such as organizing rallies, opening temporary party offices, door-to-door canvassing, using video vans and helicopters, obtaining vehicle permits, and distributing pamphlets.

Requests are processed transparently on a "First in First Out" principle, ensuring a level playing field for all political parties and candidates. The portal is supported by a robust IT platform managed by nodal officers across various state departments.

Real-time Tracking and Accountability

The Suvidha Portal and its companion app enable applicants to track the status of their requests in real-time, adding further convenience and transparency to the process. The platform also ensures accountability by providing real-time tracking of applications, status updates, timestamped submissions, and communication via SMS.

Moreover, the permission data available on the portal serves as a valuable resource for scrutinizing election expenditures, contributing to greater accountability and integrity in the electoral process.

Commitment to Fair and Transparent Elections

Through the Suvidha Platform, the Election Commission of India reaffirms its commitment to facilitating a fair, efficient, and transparent electoral environment, where all political parties and candidates have equal access to the necessary permissions and clearances.

As the nation gears up for the General Elections 2024, the Suvidha Portal's impressive performance underscores the ECI's efforts to uphold the democratic principles of free, fair, and transparent elections.
